Examination
As a general rule, the examination takes between 30 minutes and an hour. During this time an overall impression of the horse’s movement will be ascertained and the gait analysed.
Initially, a comprehensive history is taken from the owner which includes: – age, function, expectation, general health and lameness history. Fiona will aim to contact your own vet prior to examination, especially in relation to any ongoing conditions.
The horse will then be examined whilst standing to note any gross skeletal abnormalities e.g. muscle atrophy, conformational faults, asymmetries.
The horse’s gait will then be observed in a straight line and on a circle. If appropriate the horse may be lunged or ridden and if any veterinary issues are detected, you will be advised to consult your own vet.
The chiropractic exam is then carried out whilst standing in order to evaluate the spinal column.
